CONDOR WHALE WATCHING

Blue and Humpback Whales Are Back In The Santa Barbara Channel!!

Abundance of feed brings Blue Whales, Humpbacks, Dolphins and Porpoises into our area.

Once again, the giant "whales of summer", the blues and humpbacks have moved into the Santa Barbara area and are feeding on the krill which is abundant in the channel.

It's an ideal situation for whale watchers because the animals are not migrating. We can just move into an area, shut down the engines, and let the whales decide how close they want to come to the boat ... we've had lots of friendly approaches already this year ... some lasting over an hour.

Not only do we getto observe the animals feeding, but the fact that humpbacks, blues, and dolphins are in the same areas means that the channel is like an open aquatic park. Such biological diversity with the big whales is seldom seen outside of the nutrient rich arctic and antarctic waters.

Last year, the big whales stayed in the channel until October 15. We can't tell how long they will stay this year, but we have had daily sightings for almost 2 months now, and it looks like there is still plenty of krill to keep them around for a few more weeks. However, early reservations are definitely recommended.
