The Charter Connection WHALE WATCHING"Thar she Blows!" Of the many attractions which bring pleasure to Marina del Rey visitors and residents alike, whale watching was an elusive experience. Until a couple of years ago you would have had to either depart on a commercial vessel out of San Pedro, or use your own boat locally, to enjoy this wonderful nautical display.
The Charter Connection® has announced their fourth whale watching season with excursions departing from the dock located at 4211 Admiralty Way (Waterfront of Reuben's Restaurant and Edie's Diner). The dock provides the first state-approved handicap access ramp in Marina del Rey.
Weekend excursions departing at and 1 pm will be offered on a fast U.S. Coast Guard approved 49 passenger vessel; Private excursions are available for groups of 2- 1 50 guests.
Sightings of grey whales have been reported off the Palos Verdes Peninsula and Point Dume. Excursions will allow passengers to view these spectacular creatures during this segment of their 4,000 mile trek to warmer waters where they will give birth to their young and then return.
A marine awareness discussion on board will cover a variety of ocean life including sea lions and dolphins (which passengers may also have the opportunity to view during the cruise.) Information will be provided on what to look for during whale watching-whales leave a "fluke-print" or may be seen spyhopping or breaching.
It is the hope of the Charter Connection® that these excursions will not only entertain, but will increase public awareness and help keep all sea creatures and their environment-our oceans-unendangered.
The CHARTER CONNECTION® also helps sponsor whale watching/marine awareness excursions for at-risk and disadvantaged children and invites others to participate.
