Cuanches' Poem, Canary Islands


If mighty dolphins die for a love,
so who could help us, who have frailer heart!

Mother, call out to the South Wind:
He must be careful, not to fall down with that big tree,
he has climbed on.

Cuanches were stone age people living in Gran Canaria Islands. They were doomed to extinction by European conquistadors, who invaded islands. Nearly nothing is known about them.
In the Canary Island they were called with Tamarindos, Majos, Guanches, etc....
