Since the early 1980s, the chance to swim with pods of Atlantic spotted dolphins has lured thousands
of people. Most trips begin and end at Florida ports such as Fort Lauderdale and Miami, but some also
use the port of West End, Grand Bahama Island, however, is in Florida (see Florida, USA).
An Earthwatch team will offer whale-watching and research tours out of Hope Town, Elbow Cav.
beginning in 1992. There is potential for the Bahamas to develop more cetacean tourism and earn
more revenues from the Florida-based tours.
